We would love your feedback this week! Look out in your in boxes for our new feedback form. We would love to hear from you.
We have made it! Super excited for the end of term 1. To be totally honest this was a pretty tough term for Aquatots. A few instructors not making it through the term this mainly being due to Aquatots making a decision on their teaching performances and the safety of the children in the classes. Aquatots mission is to teach children to swim and survive from a young age in a safe, fun and nurturing environment. This term saw a few instructors that where not on the same mission as us. To provide quality and safe lessons to your children changes where made which meant that some teacher changes where made. Instructors next term will settle and we will be back into a stable environment.
In saying all of this keep in mind each instructor brings their own spin and personality to their classes. If your child has not made a connection with their instructor it is important to try a different personality. Once your child connects with their instructor you will start to see a good progression.
To make a good progression and have continuation of building swimming skills it is important for your child to have consistent practice. 1 class per week is not enough for some children top gain the skills required quickly, we encourage more swim time per week to really see your child gain the required skills to swim and survive. Extra swim time can be done in the way of a 2ndlesson per week (this is done at a 30% discount) this method is my recommendation until your child is at a mini shark or shark level of swimming. Another option to bump up water time would be Holiday programs or family swim time each week; both options costs are covered by Aquatots.
Learn to swim progression is a funny thing, children will progress and then look like they are not progressing and then they will continue to progress again. This is due to their growth and development. During the plateau of progression your child is rebalancing in the water due to a growth spurt or change in their body. This change changes the centre of buoyancy meaning they will need to rebalance so they can start moving forward again. It is important to swim through this rebalancing period.
Another important factor in your child’s learn to swim progression will be a continuation of practice through the cooler months. More information on this is available in the article included in this email. Stopping over the cooler months will see a regression in skill meaning we will need to restart upon their return. Please understand that term 4 is our busiest term and is quiet hard to regain entry into the program. To ensure you gain a position in the program over the warmer months keep you spot for Winter swim season. It’s like Summer all year round at Aquatots so it does make Winter swimming easy
Last week you should have received your child’s report card via email. Information on how to read and the changes with the reports where also emailed last week. If you do have any questions for your child’s instructor you can catch them within the FIRST 5 minutes of class this week. Another option to discuss progression would be to email or catch the team leader on deck.
This week is your turn to give your feedback to us. We would LOVE to hear form you. Our feedback form will be emailed via our booking system to all families this week so you can have your say. We welcome all types of feedback.
Feedback specifically on waitlist and movement list methods would also be very welcome.
We are always looking to better our business to make it easier for our wonderful families that attend each week.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Next week we will be calling new families from the waitlist to offer them positions in the program for term 2. Please ensure if you need to change classes you do this this week by phone, email or in person. You can move if you need to or if your child is required to (required changes as per below)
- They are in an Aqua Bubba class and turn 6 months before the 6thof May
- A jelly Fish having a birthday before the 12thof May
- If your child is in a Mini level and is turning 7 before the 12thof May
- If your child is turning 12 before the 12thof May
- If the team leader has notified you that your child needs to progress to the next level
If you are unsure please feel to ask we are happy to discuss your child’s class requirements and progression at any time.
Children moving from the Jelly Fish program to the Sea Horse program will need to attend a transition class with their Jelly Fish instructor. This is a new method introduced this term to assist children moving from parent assisted to instructor lead classes. So far we have had great success transitioning children this way. Around the age of 3 your child’s instructor and the team leader on shift will organise this class with you, children are usually in this class for 2 to 3 weeks before they move into their regular Sea Horse class (if your child is in a transition class at the moment you will need to book their Sea Horse class for term 2 this week). When your child moves to the transition class please remember to collect their medal, swim cap and certificate J
If you do need to change classes/levels for term 2 please ensure this is done by the end of term, as all free positions will be offered to new families during the holidays.
Week 8 and 9 are underwater weeks. We encourage parents participating in the baby classes to bring goggles and see your child underwater, it truly is something special. Instructors will also be under with their classes (if they are not already all of the time anyway)
